Q.U.I.L.T.S.
Springfield Area Quilt Guild
General Membership Meeting
January, 2012

President Jerry Gaston opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m.  There were several new members.

Business:  A motion was made by Julia Schad and seconded by Lori McGowan to approve the minutes for the last two meetings, November and December.  Motion passed.

Treasurer:  There is no treasurer's report tonight.  There will be two reports, December 2011 and January 2012, at the February meeting.

Old Business:
  • Members need to pay their dues of $24 - please see Stella Taft or Dawn Eck.  Dues must be paid no later than February's meeting if you want to enter a quilt in the upcoming quilt show.
  • Julia Schad informed members of a charity sewing workshop for St. John's Pediatric Unit to make "Caps for Kids".  It will be held on January 14th starting at 9:00a.m.  The location is:  Farmingdale Presbyterian Church, 7971 Farmington Cemetery Road, Pleasant Plains.  Informational flyers are available.
  • Vice-president - Still need a person to volunteer.  It was suggested having a sub-committee to help with programs throughout the year.   After refreshments, an election will be held for new officers.
Quilt Show:
  • Appraisals - Barbara Olinger has appraisal forms.  Quilts that are hanging in the show can also be appraised.
  • Bed Turning - Barbara Olinger is asking for older quilts for the bed turning demonstration.  She will gather information and take photo of quilt, but will not be taking the quilt.  After some discussion, it was determined an e-mail will be sent out letting members know about procedures for the acquisition of bed turning quilts.  Currently, the antique quilt category on acquisition form is for quilts hanging not bed turning.
  • Consignments - Karen Barr announced a form must be completed to place your quilt items in consignment.  Also labeling and pricing it yourself is required.  The guild will keep 15% of proceeds.  At a future date, members will decide how money is to be used.
  • Advertising - President Jerry Gaston announced there are flyers, posters and bookmarks promoting the quilt show.  Information was sent to quilt shops within 100 mile radius.  Please pick up information to pass out.  Correction on bookmarks:  Admission to show is $5.00.
  • Co-chairs - Marney Sudholdt and Nini Saner are in need of the following donations:  cash boxes and fat quarters.  Also need members to enter quilts in the show and volunteers to sign up for various jobs.

New Business:
  • Election of Officers:  Vice President - Karen Lindley nominated Marsha Smith and nomination was seconded by Mary Beth Paulek.  Vote taken - Marsha was elected.    Secretary - President Jerry Gaston nominated Caren Bryant and nomination was seconded by Dawn Eck.  Vote taken - Caren was elected and will serve a two-year term.
  • Refreshment/Treats - In order to continue treats, we need members to volunteer. Instead of one person taking it on, it was suggested we could have a volunteer each month or quarter.  Julia Schad and Sharon Waggoner have volunteered to head up treats for February's meeting.  Loni Bastas will head up March treats and members with March birthdays will bring treats.
  • Quilt Workshop - There are new members who are interested in a beginner's quilt workshop.  Jerry Gaston will come up with some ideas in the future.
Programs/Workshops: At February's meetingJerry will have a program on labeling your quilt.

Refreshments:  Thank you to everyone who brought treats.

Show & Tell - Some wonderful quilts were shown.

Door Prizes - Drawing was held and prizes were distributed.

Meeting adjourned at 8:10p.m.
